Tinikling

The National Dance of the Philippines, Tinikling dance originated from the movements of the tikling birds with their long stilt-like legs. As they walked and jumped through branches as well as gracefully maneuvered through traps set by the farmers trying to protect their rice crop. Soon after, the locals imitated how these birds moved, and the dance was born. Tinikling involves the use of bamboo sticks that clap together while dances attempt to move around each of these sticks without getting their feet clapped in-between them.

Traditional

Named after the Tikling birds, this dance symbolizes the birds dodging rice farmer’s traps. This Filipino folk dance consists of dancers dancing in and out of pairs of bamboo poles rhythmically tapped and closed by another pair of dancers.

Modern

Modern tinikling is a present-day spin on the traditional Filipino folk dance. It takes the traditional style of involving dancers to step in and out of bamboo poles in a rhythmic manner, but puts a modern twist by adding present day beat.
